I hate to think of adding a new blog entry, just to be adding a new entry, so I'll make it short!
(I suppose I could always revert it back to "Draft" status later, just to hide it?)
Not a lot going on lately (just too lazy to come up with anything interesting, or any further details to write about at the moment) ... Working on my Java reading/learning, interviewing for a REAL job ...

Specific Serendipity Configuration Required for Sub-Domain
Well, finally a new entry!
Sub-domains require specific Serendipity configurations (changes) for the Bulletproof template to function correctly. Otherwise, with the "default" configuration, the CSS features appear to be disabled!
I've managed (with lots of help) to get things working for now, but I still have questions which will have to wait a while. I just wanted to get this long entry in, to document the problems/issues that I encountered.
I decided that I didn't like some of the appearances of the "default" template "Serendipity 3.0/carl_contest".
For example, the lower-casing of "header" text (regardless of how it's actually specified).
Also, I wanted to try another template, just to see how easy or difficult it might be ...
As it turns out, my first attempt at using the "Bulletproof 1.0" template (as included w/s9y 1.2), did not work very well at all: It looked too "plain" with no formatting, etc. I finally figured out that it appeared NOT to be using the CSS file(s) at all! It looked exactly the same as if I'd toggled style sheets OFF (using the Firefox 2 View/PageStyle/NoStyle option).

Yes, Virginia, you CAN embed HTML links into your comments on this blog!
Yes, Virginia, you CAN embed HTML links into your comments on this blog!
All YOU have to do is use BBCode syntax ...
All I had to do, was ENABLE BBCode itself, by "installing" the appropriate Serendipity plugin!
This investigation was kicked off by a previous comment (gripe near the bottom, links are FIXED there, BTW)
But just to mention a few things I found on the rest of the net in the meantime (YOU can GET any THING you want ...) ...

Redirecting the Old Blog
This afternoon, my blog task is to redirect the old blog, MinstrelMike.BlogSpot.com, to the NEW blog, at blog.MinstrelMike.com.
Seemed so simple at first ...
Earlier, while looking into importing the meager contents of the "Old Blog" into the "New Blog" (more on that later maybe: it's not nearly "foolproof" enough), I noticed something:
At Blogger, you can set it up to "publish" using FTP/SFTP, which effectively dumps posts into another site. If you select the FTP method of publishing, it also "redirects" the "Old Blog" to the "New Blog"!
Turns out, that's not exactly foolproof either! Continue reading "Redirecting the Old Blog" »
